Chesapeake is a beautiful, independent city in the state of Virginia. It is the second largest city in the state in terms of land space and it is a very diverse city with a few urban areas as well as many miles of protected natural grounds. When you look for hotels Chesapeake has plenty of options to consider.

One thing that you will never do in this city is run out of things to do. There are attractions, special events and activities that are similar to a large city, but all of it is in the midst of a beautiful, natural area.

This area of the country has enough outdoor activities to keep any outdoors enthusiast happy for days. You can find peace and quiet in the best-preserved natural areas on the east coast. The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is the best place to visit to explore the wild. This 111,000 acres of wetlands and forests is one of the best naatural reas in the country with many different animals along with birds and reptiles.

Lake Drummond is another beautiful area and the second largest lake in the state. This 2,100-acre retreat is a pleasurable place to go boating, kayaking and canoeing as you take in the beautiful views. The Northwest River Park sits near the wildlife trail and runs into the Atlantic. This park has picnic areas and plenty of places to play volleyball, horseshoes, mini-golf and more. When you visit this area of the city, you will understand why it has won the "Best of Chesapeake" award four times in a row.

Chesapeake also has plenty of history behind its beauty. Settlers first arrived in the area in 1620 and the city played a major role in bringing America to what it is today. The Virginia Civil War Trails are the best places to visit to get an idea of the war history of the city. These trails lead to a series of battle sites that were used during the Civil War. The trails were also used to lead to Underground Railroad hideouts and the roads are lined with many other historic sites.

The Great Dismal Swamp Canal was created in the 1790s to help the city become a commerce center in the area. George Washington and many others viewed the canal and it has served the area well for over 230 years. It is a historic site and the oldest man-made canal that is still being used in the country. The canal was especially important to the Confederate troops because it was used to route supplies to different areas during the Civil War until the Union took over its banks in 1862.

Whenever you travel, you will likely have a little shopping you want to do. This town is a true delight when it comes to shopping. You can find funky retail stores, chic boutiques and large chain stores within the three main shopping centers in the region. Greenbrier Mall and Chesapeake Square Mall both have all of the best department stores as well as individual, local and upscale retail stores. The newest mall in the area, the Towne Place at the Greenbrier, has over 170,000 square feet of walkways lined with restaurants and unique shops. This large outdoor entertainment plaza should have just what you are looking to find.

Over the years, Chesapeake has been known as a rich and fertile farmland with access to varied navigable waters. By 1963, it was officially deemed the City of Chesapeake and today, it is a modern metro area that is thriving. In fact, it has been ranked number eighty-five on the "Best Places to Live" list and that also makes it a great place to visit.

When you visit this intriguing area of the country on business or for vacation, there are many hotels Chesapeake has for visitors to consider. Some of the hotels feature apartment-style suites with full kitchens while others have more basic rooms. If you are in the area on business, you will want to make sure the accommodations you choose have a full business center. If you are visiting on a family vacation, you will want to check out the size of the pool instead. Whatever you need in hotels Chesapeake has an option that should fit your style.
